  1. Objective of the prize: To recognize and reward excellent research conducted by young scientists in Japan.
  2. Research area: Condensed matter science (condensed matter physics, organic-inorganic chemistry, material science, surface physics)
  3. Eligibility: Candidates should be 40 years old and under on 1st April 2019 and have made an outstanding achievement in condensed matter science in a Japanese University or Research Institute.
  4. Prize: The prize is awarded annually to 1 individual. The prize comprises of a Yen 500,000 cheque, a commemorative certificate & medal and the opportunity to give invited lectures at British Universities.
  5. Nominator: The candidate should be nominated by a recognized expert in the field of condensed matter science. Self nomination is also acceptable.
  6. Number of nominations: Each nominator may recommend one applicant.
  7. Application process: Send the complete nomination form to the secretariat of Millennium Science Forum by e-mail together with details of 2 referees whom the Millennium Science Forum Steering Committee may contact.
  8. Nomination closing date: Noon on 1st August 2019
  9. Selection method: Adjudication by the Selection Committee of the Sir Martin Wood Prize.
  10. Notification of winner: September 2019
  11. Award ceremony: 22nd November 2019, in British Embassy, Tokyo
