Sir Martin Wood Prize Selection Committee


1. Objective of the prize
To recognize and reward excellent research conducted by young scientists in Japan.

2. Research area
Condensed matter science (condensed matter physics, organic-inorganic chemistry, material science, surface physics)

3. Eligibility
Candidates should be 45 years old and under on 1st April 2023 and have made an outstanding achievement in condensed matter science in a Japanese University or Research Institute.

4. Prize
The prize is awarded annually to 1 individual. The prize comprises of a Yen 500,000, a commemorative certificate & medal and the opportunity to give invited lectures at British Universities.

5. Nominator
The candidate should be nominated by a recognized expert in the field of condensed matter science. Self nomination is also acceptable.

6. Number of nominations
Each nominator may recommend one applicant.

7. Nomination process

Send up to 3 main theses and the complete nomination form with details of 2 referees whom the Millennium Science Forum Steering Committee may contact via the nomination form below.

8. Nomination closing date
17:00 on 10th July 2023

9. Selection method

Adjudication by the Selection Committee of the Sir Martin Wood Prize.

10. Notification of winner
September 2023

11. Award ceremony
10th November 2023, in British Embassy, Tokyo
